Why is having a Website Not Enough and why social media marketing can benefit your business right now

Social Media Marketing

In this video I am going to talk about social media marketing.

I am going to work through why having a website is not enough and why social media marketing can benefit your business right now.

Time is short and lot’s to cover so let’s take a closer look at how you can benefit…

I already have a Website. It’s enough – right?

One of the most common mistakes that business owners are guilty of is thinking that online marketing is simply having your own website. This is another classic case of “Marketing Myopia” where instead of focusing on your consumers and their needs, you tend to be short sighted and just focus on the needs of your business. So you realized that your business needs to have an online presence. So you decided to create a website, put content in it and hope and pray that people would have some magical moment and wake up one day knowing that your site exists. That is a perfect example of why new online business owners fail.

Why?

Picture this…

Imagine a single friend of yours complaining to you why she hasn’t found a partner yet despite being smart, pleasant and decent looking. You then found out that for the past five years, she’s been going to two places only, office and then at home, everyday of her life for the past five years. And she expects something to happen along the way?

This is what creating a new website, doing nothing but update it and wait for people to visit it is like.

First of all, you have got to find ways for people around the web to know that your website exists. How do you do this? Build bridges! You’ve got to find a way for people to connect to you or even just check you out. How do you build bridges then? There are a lot of ways for you to build bridges on to your website. What we will be teaching you is one of the most powerful tools that you must have, not only for people to find out about your company website but more importantly, as the main purpose of marketing in general, that is to be where your consumers are.

We go back to one of the most important questions when creating your marketing plan and strategy.

Who is my target audience?

And where do they hang out?

This is where Social Media comes in.

Did you know that web users now spend more time on facebook than google?

When was the last time you actually visited any social networking site of yours?

How about browsing through any blog on?

Did you recently watch a video posted online?

This is all within the scope of the powerful and revolutionizing world of Social Media.

Still not convinced?

Then we will walk you through below why you need to care and leverage on Social Media Marketing.

1. Social Media is where the online mass market hangout

Social Media is a very fast evolving landscape that has significantly changed and revolutionized the digital lives of consumer’s.

Studies indicated that 71.1% of online users have visited a friend’s social network page while 96% of these Social Networkers have visited a friend’s social network page and nearly two-thirds of all active internet users have spent time managing their own profile.

In short, this is where not only the elite people but almost all kinds of people hangout. And from there, they each form their own groups based on their interests, personalities etc.

Social Media websites have become the ultimate internet place hangout with facebook, twitter and YouTube as the top social media sites.

2. Social Media is changing the communication landscape

Social Media has changed the way people use the internet.

The ever evolving technology has definitely shifted the power from media owners, publishers etc. to the people or consumers.

A study showed that 91% thinks that consumer reviews are the #1 aid when planning to buy or purchase a product or service (JC Williams Group). 87% also trust a friend’s recommendation over a critic’s review (Marketing Sherpa).

Social Media has become a channel for different voices all over the globe. Aside from the fact that airtime is free, social media is also interactive.  An update can immediately explode into a discussion in just a single minute, making it the ultimate place for dialogue.

We cannot confidently state that Social Media and blogging killed traditional publishing, but we cannot deny how Social Media and technology altered the publishing business and industry that some of them have jumped into the digital world too.

People need not to wait for the news to break on the 6pm news because they’ve already heard about it. It’s all online and heard the news first on their twitter or some kind of social media.

3. Social Media is practical and flexible

If you believe Social Media exist merely for personal use and networking then you definitely got it all wrong.

Another main reason why Social Media has become a big hit is because of its practicality and flexibility.

You can basically do anything with it whether you want to write a long rant, shamelessly showcase your own video, upload music, share your server killing image gallery or just update a simple one liner. Name it all and you can do it with Social Media.

But aside from these main uses, Social Media can also be used for a lot of Purposes mainly in the stand point of business owners and marketing practitioners.

With Social Media, you can:

  • Create instant buzz for promotions and campaigns
  • Daily update your consumers
  • Get instant feedback and learn what the people are saying about you
  • Immediately respond to them
  • Get your message fast
  • Instantly build a community and loyal followers
  • Find new opportunities
  • Find new customers and build loyalty
  • Build a special relationship with your current customers
  • Increase and strengthen brand exposure

All of this and a whole lot more you can do with Social Media without having to bring out billions of money as to traditional advertising.

4. Social Media is measurable

Aside from the others saying that it is hard to measure Social Media, there are still a lot of ways for you to measure and maintain it.

Unlike traditional Media which will take some time and data processing for you to get some statistics and feedback, Social Media can give you an immediate idea on what is happening.

This is via the metrics and data that the internet produces which includes the standard views, visits, incoming links and reviews. Aside from statistics, you can also get daily qualitative results by listening to feedback, customer reviews and conversations of billions of people online.

The main advantage of this is that since the internet is real time and metrics are easily obtained, it is easier for business owners, marketing professionals or anyone interested to look at the statistics and feedback and immediately think and change strategies especially if you spot that it’s not working.

The convenience of the internet makes it for easy for anyone to take action immediately which in the long run is more practical and cost effective.

5. Social Media is growing

Good news is that Social Media just like technology is constantly evolving and changing.

Social media platforms and sites come out everyday and the trend is growing.

Like a recent study highlighted the proliferation of videos as one of the strongest tool in the internet today and the emergence of mobile internet where a growing number of internet users globally access it on their mobile.

Social media is continually and constantly growing and emerging. As what Gist said, the future of social media in journalism will see the death of “social media.”

All media as we know it today will become social, and feature a social component to one extent or another. After all, much of the web experience, particularly in the way we consume content, is becoming Social and personalized.

But one last thing to remember and take note of is that Social Media is not a standalone advertising tool. Like most channels, it will not work if not supported and integrated with other different marketing efforts.

Make sure you do not just rely on Social Media for your whole marketing efforts. If you have a website, make sure you integrate it with other things such as search engine optimization, video marketing, link building, social media marketing and lot more.
